PPG COLORFUL COMMUNITIES project brings color to Wuhu School for the Blind

WUHU, China, June 19, 2017 – PPG (NYSE: PPG) recently announced the completion of a COLORFUL COMMUNITIES™ project that renovated the dormitory and school corridor of the Wuhu School for the Blind in Anhui province, China. The project, part of PPG’s global community engagement efforts, involved local government officials, the media and nearly 120 volunteers from PPG’s Wuhu plant and its customer Chery. This marks the first Colorful Communities project that PPG has held jointly with a customer in the Asia Pacific region.

Volunteers from PPG’s Wuhu plant are renovating the dormitory.

Volunteers from PPG’s Wuhu plant and Chery are painting the corridor and drawing the music score on the walls.

With a theme of “the four seasons,” project volunteers placed three-dimensional patterns of a piano keyboard on the corridor walls of the four-story dormitory building and used MASTER’S MARK® paint to create the notes of Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi’s signature The Four Seasons concertos. The wall art helps the school’s students experience the change of seasons through touching the melody. The project also involved refurbishing the columns and beams of the school corridor with green, red, yellow and blue paint to highlight the four seasons.
"Art is a common language for all,” said Cathy Yan, PPG general manager, corporate and government affairs, Asia Pacific. “PPG is pleased to bring color to the school’s students and help them experience art and other positive aspects of life. This was a very special Colorful Communities project.”
As an important part of PPG's commitment to community responsibility, the Colorful Communities project aims to protect and beautify the communities in which PPG operates. Since its launch in 2015, PPG has also completed Colorful Communities projects in Tianjin, Zhangjiagang, Shanghai and Kunshan in China. The Wuhu event marked the first time that a PPG customer actively joined in PPG’s community engagement initiative in the Asia Pacific region.
“We greatly appreciate the support of our customers and the local communities as we protect and beautify special places throughout China," said Yan. “We look forward to providing additional opportunities for our employees and partners to participate in Colorful Communities projects.”
